Our Purpose
The Purpose of Whitten Memorial Baptist Church is to bring people to Jesus and membership
in His family, the Church, to develop them to Christ-like maturity, and to equip
them for their ministry in the church and life mission in the world in order to
magnify God. We believe that a great commitment to the great commandment and to
the great commission will build a great church.
What kind of Church is Whitten Memorial Baptist?
Whitten Memorial Baptist Church is a Southern Baptist Church, affiliated with the
Mid-South Baptist Association, the Tennessee Baptist Convention, and the Southern
Baptist Convention. We believe, teach, and preach the Bible as the inspired, inerrant
Word of God. We believe that every person is precious in the sight of God, and we
seek in our worship services, and in all of our various church organizations and
events to provide spiritual help and encouragement. There really is a place for
YOU at Whitten. You'll find a warm, friendly atmosphere that conveys the message
"God loves you and so do we"!
How to become a Christian
The Bible teaches that every last one of us is a sinner. Roman 3: 23 "For all have
sinned and come short of the glory of God." Romans 6: 23 declares that "the wages
of sin is death" and the primary emphasis in that verse is spiritual death which
is separation from God, but that verse goes on to say, "But the gift of God is eternal
life through Jesus Christ our Lord."
Jesus died on the cross to pay the penalty for our sins. Romans 5: 8 says, " but
God commendeth His love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died
for us." Romans 10: 13 tells us that "Whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall
be saved!"

God commendeth His love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died
for us." Romans 10: 13 tells us that "Whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall
be saved!" How does a person receive that wonderful gift of eternal life? By faith
in our Lord Jesus Christ. Faith, in the Biblical sense, is believing in Jesus to
the point that you yield yourself totally to Him and to turn away from our sin.
That kind of surrender will result in a transformed life of obedience and service.
You can have a peace in your life that will set you free from the stress of this
world!
